The SC-MCC card (system controller) performs the centralized control of the system. It manages the connection with the data acquisition cards (SC-AI, SC-COM, etc.) and the standard IP Ethernet network.
The card mainly provides for the conversion of the data received from the data acquisition cards into the standard MODBUS protocol format and in the right selectable measurement unit.
SC-MCC card can be functionally subdivided into the following three sections:
- CPU section, which makes a complete computer, based on Linux operative system
- FPGA section, which manages the internal BUS connection
- BUS Drivers, which provide to match the BUS signal levels, as shown in the following figure.
SC-COM card functional block diagram
The CPU section includes either the ColdFireŽ RISC type CPU or the various SRAM and FLASH type operative memories (on which the operating system and the SC unit management application software is installed), as well as the drivers for the Ethernet external interfaces, USB (not used in the present configuration) and RS-232 serial port (reserved for Service purposes).
